Some shoot days you plan for weeks and hope the weather plays along. And then some days the weather turns up like it totally understood the creative brief. Our La Tropicana Prologue shoot at Snells Beach was one of those days (thank goodness!).
Bluer-than-blue sky. Sunshine glistening off the water... Kawau Bay glittering away in the background like it knew it was on camera. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!
Bringing a Little Bit of the Tropics to New Zealand
La Tropicana Prologue is our second (mini) collection, and a little 'preview' of what's to come.
In September this year we travelled to Luzon Island in the Philippines to find handwoven pieces made by local artisans, using natural fibres like abaca, rattan and seagrass (banana plant fibre). The pieces we came home with carry that warm, sun-soaked, island feeling, and we knew straight away they needed a backdrop to match.
We are so lucky that we didn’t have to look far. Snells Beach is right on our doorstep here on the Matakana Coast, and with its sweeping vista of Kawau Bay, it felt like the perfect place to bring a little bit of the tropics home to New Zealand.
Meet Our Muse, Emily
If you’ve been with us since our very first The Wanderer Collection, you’ll already know Emily. She was one of our original muses, and having her back in front of the camera for La Tropicana Prologue was like catching up with an old friend. She has this natural, easy warmth that makes everything look effortless, which is exactly what these pieces are all about. You can follow Emily on Instagram at @emilycollins585. A huge thank you to Emily for bringing so much joy, energy, ease and beauty to the day!
Our first release, La Tropicana: Prologue, is a small, special introduction to the collection, featuring a limited number of handwoven abaca totes and handbags. Because each one is made by hand, quantities really are limited, so if one catches your eye, don’t wait too long!
